Community Parents Project:

Information for parents and families

  • Are you or a family member expecting a first baby?
  • Are you a second or third time mum who experienced difficulties or challenges first time around?
  • Could you do with a listening ear?
  • Someone to be there for you through the changes to you and your new family?
  • A Community Parent is a trained volunteer who offers support to mums and dads-to-be during pregnancy and the first year of family life.
  • We aim to help you feel confident and prepared for being a parent.

Our volunteers can support you to care well for yourself and your growing baby in pregnancy. They offer emotional support, encouragement and motivation - a kind, non-judgemental ear to listen to you! Some of the things that our volunteers support families with include discussing your birth options and helping you to create a birth plan. They can also accompany you to antental classes, clinics and hospital visits if you feel this may help you.

Since we established the project in 2012, Community Parents has helped support over 80 families with 1:1 peer support, improving holistic wellbeing for vulnerable new mums, giving their babies the best possible start in life, reducing their social isolation, and strenghtening our local community.

In addition to 1:1 peer support, we also run free and weekly exercise classes, a Social Drop-in session for mums to be and new mums to meet and chat over a cup of coffee, as well as quarterly workshops that focus on self-care, parenting and preparing for labour.

I have never been so grateful.
