Island House has coordinated the CanDo Community Led Projects since 2009.

Each year, our Community Development Workers recruit, train, support and provide financial support to local volunteers to start up new healthy lifestyle activities for their peers or estate.

Individuals (not organisations) can apply to our local Community Assessment Panel for upto £500 for new activities that are promoting one or more of the following CanDo priorities:

SPORT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITY (increasing regular physical activity)

    IMPROVING ENVIRONMENT (community action projects)

HEALTHY EATING (including food growing projects)

MENTAL WELLBEING (targetting specific areas of mental well-being).

This project is currently funded by Comic Relief with support from One Housing Group,  Tower Hamlets Public Health and Island Health Trust.

Across the borough, we have helped coordinate the establishment of 452 new volunteer led healthy lifestyle projects in Tower Hamlets up to December 2017.
