COMMUNITY CENTRE MANAGER IS AN INSPIRATION

Centre Manager for Island House Community Centre, Louise Pears has been awarded at the Inspiration East awards in Chelmsford. Louise Pears was nominated by fellow Island House worker Gulbahar Begum.

Within the last 3 years Louise has accomplished a number of projects, programmes and other related community based activities. The centre has not only improved its services and appearance but has also been recognised for the change, good services and programmes that the centre is providing. Louise has also inspired her nominee Gulbahar Begum to get into further education, Gulbahar is studying a degree in Social Enterprise with the University of East London and is about to study her final year.

The awards by Lake Bushells Chartered Accountants were set up to encourage businesspeople and people in community organisations to publicly recognise those who have inspired them to succeed.

YOUNG PEOPLE REPRESENT THE ISLE OF DOGS AT YOUTH ACHIEVEMENT EVENT

On Thursday 30th March young people from the Isle of Dogs came together for an evening of Youth Achievement presentations. They have been working towards a nationally recognised (UK Youth/ASDAN) Youth Achievement Award at Island House, 25 awards are being presented at 3 different levels: ‘Challenge’, 'Bronze' and 'silver'.

The evening included the unveiling of an interfaith window which was created by a group of Christian and Muslim children.

One group also showed a video presenting the Make Poverty History rally in Edinburgh last year.
